Mediation Workshop Highlights: Conflict Resolution, ADR Practices, and Workplace Mediation Strategies

Last night’s mediation workshop was a powerful and enriching event, centered around professional insight and collective learning. We had the privilege of welcoming Cyrille Franck, a respected expert in mediation practice analysis, who joined us specifically to guide and deepen our reflections.

This session, dedicated to conflict resolution through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR / MARC) methods, attracted double the usual number of participants. The workshop was fully booked, bringing together over 20 professionals committed to enhancing workplace mediation practices.

Simulated Mediation: Exploring Workplace Conflict Dynamics

At the heart of the workshop was a role-play simulation of a corporate mediation, focusing on interpersonal tension within a team of four—two employees and two direct supervisors. Two mediators facilitated the process, supported by a third mediator acting as an occasional backup.

This practical case study raised several key strategic questions in conflict management through mediation, such as:

  • How should a mediation process be structured when both employees and their supervisors are present, and when professional misconduct is being mutually alleged?

  • How should a mediator respond to a significant unexpected event during a session that might threaten the continuation of the process? Under what circumstances can—or must—the mediator pause or end the session to protect a party’s wellbeing?

  • How can a mediator effectively manage their own emotions, especially when one party demonstrates greater emotional vulnerability?

  • What tools and techniques ensure a balanced dialogue, particularly when one participant dominates the discussion?

Bridging Theory and Practice in Mediation

This workshop helped strengthen professional mediation skills and deepened our understanding of human dynamics in conflict resolution. It actively contributes to the promotion of ADR methods as concrete, effective, and humane solutions for preventing and resolving disputes within organizations.

We extend our sincere thanks to Cyrille Franck for his expert contribution, and to all participants for their active engagement and valuable input. Special thanks as well to the Fédération Genevoise Médiation (FGeM) for this inspiring session dedicated to advancing the field of professional mediation.

📅 Next workshop: 11 June 2025, with Dominique Renaud from FGeM.
🌐 The following session will be hosted by Terraxis in September.
