Topics covered: Voluntary Participation & Managing Company Information After Workplace Mediation

Our latest workplace mediation workshop, organized with Terraxis SA and the Fédération Genevoise Médiation (FGeM), brought together 8 participants to explore a case inspired by a real workplace conflict.

Real-Life Professional Conflict Scenario: The scenario focused on a manager seeking professional mediation between two former colleagues who had experienced a serious disagreement. The manager’s goal: determine whether the reintegration of one employee into the company was possible.

This case highlights a common challenge in organizational conflict management: employers strive to rebuild trust among employees to maintain team cohesion and ensure smooth business operations.

Key Topics Covered in the Mediation Workshop:

Voluntary Participation in Mediation
How can trust be fostered when employees have not requested mediation but participate at their manager’s request? Voluntary engagement is often the key to a successful employee mediation process.

Confidentiality vs. Reporting to Management
How can a manager’s need for information be balanced with the confidentiality principles of mediation? Striking the right balance between organizational transparency and mediator confidentiality is a core challenge in workplace conflict resolution.

The Mediator’s Role in Finding Solutions
How far can a mediator go in proposing options? Should they only facilitate dialogue, or actively suggest possible solutions? This topic will be explored further in our next mediation workshop.

The Power of Collective Intelligence in Workplace Mediation
This workshop demonstrated that successful conflict resolution relies on collective intelligence and sharing experiences. Participant contributions enabled an in-depth understanding of the mediator’s role and helped improve conflict management practices in the workplace.
